I managed to get the Display port working again on the problem child monitor. Ended up hooking up a HDMI cable, going into System setup > DisplayPort Stream .and setting the option to 1.2. This managed to bring the display port back to life again. FWIW I could not get into System Setup without connecting the HDMI cable.

DP has a power pin, but it's only to power an adapter (3.3V 500mA). But according to specification, cables are not allowed to carry the DP_PWR pin.
