21 Valve's Source engine does this and it's rather brilliant. Essentially, create a small (say 1/16th scale) world, with terrain, buildings, trees and what not. Place a camera in the middle, and have it capture a cubemap image and use it for the skybox. What makes it unique is the ability to actually make the skybox be dynamic.

#1 laurent-h Joined: Sep 29, 2016 Posts: 78 Hi, The procedural sky is replaced by the Physical Sky in Unity 19.3 with HDRP 7.1+ versions. The physical sky is still experimental but it lets you use a HDRI for stars at night. I recommend to use HDRP version 7.1.7 to avoid a performance issue we had in prior versions.
